MLB Game Breakdown | July 26, 2024

Below is a collection of MLB Game Previews for July 25 2024

Minnesota Twins (-168) @ Detroit Tigers (+142)

Pitchers: Pablo Lopez (R) vs. Keider Montero (R)
Weather: High 70s, winds in from left at 5 mph.

Twins Analysis: Keider Montero struggles against right-handed hitters, giving up multiple earned runs in recent outings. Byron Buxton has excelled against righties this month and is a strong home run candidate today. Keep an eye on lineup updates as Jose Miranda and Royce Lewis could boost the Twins’ offense.

Tigers Analysis: Pablo Lopez has been inconsistent recently but has controlled damage. His strikeout rate is solid, but Detroit’s strikeout rates have been low against righties lately, making Lopez less appealing for fantasy purposes.

Home Run Candidate: Byron Buxton (MIN)

Cleveland Guardians (+150) @ Philadelphia Phillies (-178)

Pitchers: Ben Lively (R) vs. Cristopher Sanchez (L)
Weather: Mid 80s, winds in from left at 5 mph.

Phillies Analysis: Cristopher Sanchez has been effective with a strong ground ball rate and has been in good form recently. The Phillies bullpen is also solid, making it hard for Cleveland to score after Sanchez exits. I would stay away from the CLE lineup today.

Guardians Analysis: Ben Lively has struggled, especially against righties. Nick Castellanos matches up well against Lively and Trae Turner could also have a nice day from the plate. I also like Alec Bohm today and think he could hit one out of the park.

Home Run Candidate: Alec Bohm (PHI)

Cincinnati Reds (-108) @ Tampa Bay Rays (-108)

Pitchers: Nick Lodolo (L) vs. Shane Baz (R)
Weather: High 70s, winds in from left at 5 mph.

Reds Analysis: Shane Baz has been poor against lefties, and the Reds have a strong lineup from that side. Elly De La Cruz and Jake Fraley are top home run candidates on this slate.

Rays Analysis: Nick Lodolo struggles against right-handed hitters, and the Rays’ lineup features several potential power bats like Isaac Paredes. However, this could be an elite strikeout spot for Lodolo. If he comes out in good form, he could rack up a ton of Ks against this Rays team.

Home Run Candidates: Elly De La Cruz (CIN), Jake Fraley (CIN)

San Diego Padres (+172) @ Baltimore Orioles (-205)

Pitchers: Adam Mazur (R) vs. Grayson Rodriguez (R)
Weather: High 80s, winds in from right at 5 mph.

Orioles Analysis: Grayson Rodriguez always has strong strikeout potential but struggles with righties and I would stay away today. The Orioles are favored with a high run total, and Anthony Santander and Colton Cowser are strong home run picks.

Padres Analysis: Adam Mazur is likely to struggle against a potent Orioles lineup. Manny Machado could hit one out, but for the most part I would be staying away from this lineup.

Home Run Candidates: Anthony Santander (BAL), Colton Cowser (BAL), Manny Machado (SD)

MLB Game Previews July 25 2024

Texas Rangers (+104) @ Toronto Blue Jays (-122)

Pitchers: Andrew Heaney (L) vs. Yusei Kikuchi (L)
Weather: High 70s, winds in from left at 5 mph.

Rangers Analysis: Yusei Kikuchi has struggled against lefties. I think Corey Seager is a nice HR look today. His career stats against Kikuchi aren’t great, so buyer beware, but I think it’s a great spot on paper.

Blue Jays Analysis: Andrew Heaney has performed well recently. Vlad Guerrero Jr, who is 3-4 with a HR against Heaney, is a strong look today but I don’t like the outlook for the Jays.

Home Run Candidates: Corey Seager (TEX), Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (TOR).

Atlanta Braves (+108) @ New York Mets (-126)

Pitchers: Charlie Morton (R) vs. Kodai Senga (R)
Weather: Mid 80s, winds moving left to right at 5 mph.

Mets Analysis: Charlie Morton has been strong against lefties but weaker against righties. JD Martinez is my favorite HR candidate for the Mets.

Braves Analysis: Charlie Morton has been strong against lefties but weaker against righties. The Braves’ top bats like Austin Riley could benefit. Kodai Senga is making his 2024 debut and has strong strikeout potential, though he may be limited to around five innings. This Braves lineup is striking out at a 25% clip against RHPs over the last few weeks. Austin Riley is my favorite HR candidate for ATL.

Home Run Candidates: JD Martinez (NYM), Austin Riley (ATL)

New York Yankees (-126) @ Boston Red Sox (+108)

Pitchers: Nestor Cortes (L) vs. Brayan Bello (R)
Weather: Nearing 80, winds moving left to right at 5 mph.

Red Sox Analysis: Brayan Bello has struggled recently and has particular weakness against left-handed hitters. Juan Soto and Ben Rice are top home run candidates.

Yankees Analysis: Nestor Cortes has been inconsistent but could benefit from facing a strikeout-prone Red Sox lineup. Cortes has historically racked up Ks against this NYY squad, but he will also likely allow some damage.

Home Run Candidates: Juan Soto (NYY), Ben Rice (NYY)

Miami Marlins (+184) @ Milwaukee Brewers (-220)

Pitchers: Trevor Rogers (L) vs. Freddy Peralta (R)
Weather: Nearing 80, roof open.

Brewers Analysis: Freddy Peralta has been strong against righties, and with several right-handed hitters in the Marlins lineup, he’s in a favorable spot. William Contreras is my favorite HR candidate for MIL.

Marlins Analysis: Trevor Rogers has struggled against right-handed hitters. I think he gets shelled today. I don’t like any of the MIA hitters and I think Peralta’s K numbers should be high.

Home Run Candidates: William Contreras (MIL).

Seattle Mariners (-172) @ Chicago White Sox (+144)

Pitchers: George Kirby (R) vs. Drew Thorpe (R)
Weather: Mid 70s, winds in from left at 10 mph.

Mariners Analysis: George Kirby has been excellent, and the White Sox have struggled against righties. Kirby could rack up the Ks in this game. I’m not interested in any CHW hitters.

White Sox Analysis: Drew Thorpe has been solid but not a big strikeout guy. The Mariners’ lineup is more reliable against righties. I would stay away from everything on this side.

Home Run Candidates: None.

MLB Game Previews July 25 2024

Los Angeles Dodgers (+100) @ Houston Astros (-118)

Pitchers: Gavin Stone (R) vs. Framber Valdez (L)
Weather: High 70s, roof open.

Astros Analysis: Framber Valdez has been dominant against lefties and will face a top-heavy Dodgers lineup. Teoscar Hernandez is the top power play for the Dodgers.

Dodgers Analysis: Gavin Stone has struggled recently, and the Astros’ lineup is well-positioned to capitalize. Yordan Alvarez and Jeremy Pena are strong home run candidates.

Home Run Candidates: Yordan Alvarez (HOU), Teoscar Hernandez (LAD), Jeremy Pen (HOU)

Chicago Cubs (+128) @ Kansas City Royals (-152)

Pitchers: Kyle Hendricks (R) vs. Brady Singer (R)
Weather: Reaching 90, winds moving right to left at 8-10 mph.

Royals Analysis: Brady Singer is effective against righties but has struggled with left-handed hitters. Michael Busch and Ian Happ are good HR options in this game.

Cubs Analysis: Kyle Hendricks is weak against lefties, and the Royals’ lineup has several strong left-handed hitters. Vinnie Pasquantino is my favorite HR candidate for the Royals.

Home Run Candidates: Ian Happ (CHC), Michael Busch (CHC), Vinnie Pasquantino (KCR)

Washington Nationals (+140) @ St. Louis Cardinals (-166)

Pitchers: MacKenzie Gore (L) vs. Sonny Gray (R)
Weather: Mid 80s, winds in from right at 5 mph.

Cardinals Analysis: Sonny Gray has weaknesses against righties. Nolan Arenado and Paul Goldschmidt are my favorite HR candidates for the STL squad.

Nationals Analysis: MacKenzie Gore has struggled recently, and the Cardinals lineup should benefit. Juan Yepez and Keibert Ruiz are notable hitters.

Home Run Candidates: Juan Yepez (WAS), Nolan Arenado (STL)

Oakland Athletics (-126) @ Los Angeles Angels (+108)

Pitchers: Paul Blackburn (R) vs. Carson Fulmer (R)
Weather: High 70s, winds out to center at 5 mph.

Angels Analysis: Carson Fulmer has been inconsistent, and the A’s lineup is hot. Brent Rooker and Miguel Andujar are key power plays.

Athletics Analysis: Paul Blackburn has returned from injury and will be limited. The Angels’ lineup, especially left-handed hitters, could benefit, but I don’t see anything worth playing from a HR standpoint.

Home Run Candidates: Brent Rooker (OAK)

Pittsburgh Pirates (+150) @ Arizona Diamondbacks (-178)

Pitchers: Luis Ortiz (R) vs. Zac Gallen (R)
Weather: Mid 80s, winds in from right at 5 mph.

Diamondbacks Analysis: Zac Gallen has struggled with right-handed hitters with high ground ball rates. Andrew McCutchen and Connor Joe are key hitters.

Pirates Analysis: Luis Ortiz has been inconsistent, and the Diamondbacks’ lineup is well-positioned to exploit this. Ketel Marte is in a nice spot to hit one out of the park.

Home Run Candidates: Andrew McCutchen (PIT), Ketel Marte (ARI)
